Role Models
Name:
Stevina
Title:
Assistant Professor, Department of Marketing, & Director, Faculty/Student
Mentoring Program, California State University, Hayward, Hayward, CA.
I teach undergraduate Business Communication and Consumer Behavior.
As Director of the Mentoring Program, I facilitate Faculty/Student &
Student/Student mentoring partnerships to reduce academic dropout rates
at CSUH.
Path:
I have always wanted to be many things. For me, the best
confidence booster was a multidisciplinary education.
My B.S. was in English literature, my M.A. was in International
Affairs, and my Ph.D. was in Mass Communication. When I first joined
the faculty at CSUH, I was originally hired for the Fall Quarter only.
That was in the Fall of 1990. I have not stopped talking ever since.
Comments:
I find teaching and mentoring both challenging and rewarding. As the only
black female in the entire school of Business at the present time, I see
myself as a self appointed role model for youg women in general, and
minority women in particular. A career in teaching is a commitment to
improving the quality of life for many people over a lifetime.
