Name:
Nora
Title:
Research Technician, Psychology Lab
We perform research with people with mental retardation.
We look at the way people with disabilities learn and
use that information to develop techniques in the classroom.
A lot of the research is based upon computers and learning
on the computer. Even though I graduated only a year ago
from college, I already have several journal articles
published.
Path:
I majored in Psychology in college because it was
interesting and I was good at it. I definately kept
an open mind and asked a lot of questions. I also
participated in a variety of activites to learn more
about what I liked and didn't like. Approaching people
who are familiar with your interests and sharing your
thoughts is important. Opportunities arose when I took
the initiative and asked questions.
Comments:
Try out a variety of activities. Meet as many people
as you can because every one will introduce a different
point of view. If you are interested in something,
ask a teacher to show you where to get more information.
Eventually, you can get experience and jobs through
asking about opportunities available and keeping
contacts with people who share your interests.
